Distinctives
Biblical
Deuteronomy 6:6-9; Psalm 19:7-11; Romans 15:4; 1 Corinthians 10:11-12; Colossians 3:16; 2 Timothy 3:14-16; Hebrews 4:12-13
All scripture is God-breathed and the final authority in all matters of faith and practice. The Bible, its authority, and its revelation of Christ is central. We will be uniquely focused on a traditional Biblical orthodoxy, with Scripture-saturated worship and discipleship the hallmark of the church.
Creedal
1 Corinthians 15:1ff
We stand on the shoulders of the saints who have gone before us, the great cloud of witnesses who have sought to understand, explain, and live the faith handed down from the apostles and practiced by the church for two millennia. We affirm the historic statements of faith (Apostle’s, Nicene, Athanasian, and Chalcedon creeds) along with the reformed confessions (Belgic Confession, Heidelberg Catechism, Canons of Dort, and Westminster Confession). We also utilize as supplementary declarations for instruction contemporary statements of faith (The Belhar Confession, The Barmen Declaration, and New City Catechism).
Sacramental
We believe that the sacraments of the church—baptism and communion—are visible signs of invisible grace, offered to God’s people to show us God’s love and covenant commitment to his people. Good Shepherd practices weekly communion for all baptized Christians, and baptizes both infants and adults.
Missional
We believe that God’s mission to redeem and restore lost and broken creation has a church to carry out his good purposes in pointing to Christ, calling all people to faith and obedience, affirming the good work of creation and its care, working for justice among people and the nations, and embodying the kingdom of God on earth.
